When we think of American classics our minds jump to the comforting standbys we grew up with: hot dogs, fried chicken and chocolate chip cookies. Over the years, this cuisine has made such a mark on us that it seems like at some point or the other, everyone has a little love affair with it. With the splash of American grubs all over, it has transformed from delicious to glorious in India too. And this 4th of July weekend, an all-American feast is just what you need to celebrate the nation’s endless culinary creativities. We present our list of their 10 most delicious food items of all time.

1. Breakfast Sausage
Love to wake up to the smell of the morning sausages? It’s the best way to start the day, hands down. This American staple, which is called all pork lovers, fits well with apples, onions, mustard, cold cuts and tomatoes. It came about as a way for farmers to use as much as possible of their livestock and dried wise as the main ingredient with a range of spices. Small but luxurious effort, this is great for a hearty breakfast or a Sunday brunch.

2. Chocolate Chip Cookies
“Every hand has a balanced diet.” Then let’s take a moment to thank Massachusetts’ Ruth Wakefield for her brilliant idea of adding chocolate to her butter cookies in the 1930s. Bakes a bunch of chewy and crunchy cookies to get your chocolate dose and take the comfort treatment to a whole new level if you’re insane about cookies just like us. Can you feel the release of serotonin?

3. S’mores

Gooey, melty, warm and sweet — nothing evokes family vacations under the stars like this classic American food. S’mores are roasted marshmallows and a chocolate layer between 2 graham crackers. It’s the easiest dessert, uncomfortable and mouth-watering. Please, s’more! (We bet that you can’t get sufficient.) Then sharpen those marshmallow sticks and celebrate the birthday of America.

4. Cronut

When you cross a croissant with a doughnut, what do you get? Presentation: Cronut. The current gastronomic craze around the cronut makes it the world’s most popular snack! Made of laminated dough, it is first proven and then fried at a controlled temperature in the grape seed oil. The pastry is then sugar-cooked, filled and glazed. Cronut was the unique creation of Dominique Ansel, the French pastry chef. It was launched in New York in May 2013. It’s just not better with the crispness of croissants and the goodness of doughnuts.

 

5. Chicken and Waffles

Many years ago, unknown geniuses decided to combine the most significant parts of a chicken dinner with the most important parts of a waffle stack to create this ultimate sweet, delicious breakfast staple. Your brainchild still delights your stomachs worldwide. Fried chicken is the crispest, most delicious thing you ever put on top of waffles, originating in America. You certainly can’t miss a sinful delight!

6. Pancakes

There’s one front runner when it comes to typical American breakfasts: pancakes. There are many variations, but a short stack of fluffy flapjacks can’t go wrong. Pancakes are essentially flat, often thin and round cakes, made from starch butter and cooked on a hot surface. You can add a range of condiments such as maple syrup, fruit, bacon, egg and, of course, chocolate sauce. Yes, pancakes please people.

 7. Mac and Cheese

It’s creamy, cheesy, and divine—macaroni it’s and cheese. It’s creamy. This casserole baked in the oven is the ultimate comfort food in America. Tip: To obtain the most savory macaroni and cheese, use a good mix of various cheeses. Top it off with a Parmesan shaving, too. Oh, so delicious and too good to be true, mac and cheese is a complete preparation. It gained popularity after Thomas Jefferson introduced it to the United States. Although no inventor can claim the classic lacquer and cheese recipe, each inventor has a favorite version of the dish.

8. Hot Dogs

It doesn’t have more American than a basic hot dog, which has topped a ketchup and mustard sandwich between a sliced buns. In the late 1600s, John Geoghehner, a butcher from Germany, produced the sausage. In 1893 they became popular in Chicago. Everyone’s favorite hot dog is basically a traditionally grilled or steamed sausage. Add mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, onions, savory, cheese and chili.

9. Cheesecake

Smooth, creamy, divine… Yes, the adjectives which describe a cheesecake taste cause hunger. This melt-in-your-mouth dessert brings every food to a bright finish. Thank God for William Lawrence who made cream cheese ‘accidentally?  You will look forward to more from the buttery biscuit with cream cheese and tons of condiments. Sprinkle with fruit, cream, nuts or even chocolate syrup.

10. Burger

This is proof of God’s love for us and of our happiness. Face it – who doesn’t really crave a fresh bun for a good, juicy patty? It is on the menu of almost every American restaurant. It features gooey, tomato, salad and a zippy pickle sauce. Ask for your toppings to be medium rare and customize them as you like with caramelized onions, mustard, mayonnaise and pleasure. Americans claim to be the first to combine two slices of bread with a steak of ground beef into a “sandwich”
